Gardens

(don't think anybody still reads this xanga. but if you do, gimme comments and suggestions on taking pictures, cropping, photoshopping, etc. also reading up on some macro photography websites. wanna learn some photo stuff this summer.)

went picture happy in someone's garden~~~ ^_^

here are the usual flowers

frilly flowers!

this one looks like porcelain

a splash of yellow leaves in the background conveniently gave me an opportunity to frame the purple with yellow (complementary colors!) so the light purple can stand out from the green backdrop. the yellow pollen of the flower also give unity to the picture.

a tribute to age. with the withered flower in the foreground, and an image of its past in the blurred background.

omg such a gorgeous color. and shadows work wonders.

now some plantlife. an ant's view of the world... until your foot comes crashing down

i feel like this picture can be improved somehow. the framing, brightness/contrast, etc...

i love lotusy leaves! and fuzzy leaves that make waterdroplets gather!

omg i love this. super zoomed in from another photo. i'm in love with waterdroplets. the light and green in the droplet is the sun shining through the canopy of the tall trees above.

now some lifeforms. this really weird looking insect looks like it's praying. also really weird fuzzy flower thing.

a stray cat that's really snuggly. he's actually very friendly and people-liking. he just looks evil here. shadow and light worked well here i think.

now for my absolute favorite picture of the day.

Appetizer

here's a pic to the end of the year. a view of harvard from mather towers. lotsa of landmarks to pick out: 3 churches, annenberg, william james, widener, science center if your eyes are sharp, etc.

here's an experiment with using shutter as a framing device. focus on 2 churches, annenberg, william james.

went photo happy at home. picture heavy post to come soon.

google search of the day - spicy mayo

the spicy mayo sauce that sushi chefs use is a mixture of Kewpie mayonnaise and Sriracha Chili sauce

almost every other sushi at fugakyu has it, but it doesn't seem japanese in origin. hmm

my bi-annual sushi pilgrimage with j. soo puurrty~

1) caterpillar roll - eel, avocado, cucumber, tobiko (not enough eel so a little disappointing)

2) volcano roll - california topped with tobiko and spicy mayo, baked! so the rice on the outside is a little crispy, nice when eaten warm

3) alaska roll - salmon & avocado (both melt in mouth mmm~) with bonito flakes on outside (dried fish flakes that add a subtle and surprisingly nice complementary taste), the most economic roll we had which was surprisingly very good

4) ebi tuna roll - a special with shrimp and maguro wrapped alternatingly on the outside, asparagus, cucumber, kampyo, avocado in middle
